As more women desert the brand for other lingerie options like Savage X Fenty (Rhianna's Brand), and other retailers, Victoria's Secret now plans to close 53 stores this year.

Remember when Victoria's Secret Chief Marketing Officer of L Brands, Ed Razek had these comments to say about trans-gendered and plus size women??

"I think we address the way the market is shifting on a constant basis. If you’re asking if we’ve considered putting a transgender model in the show or looked at putting a plus-size model in the show, we have. We invented the plus-size model show in what was our sister division, Lane Bryant. Lane Bryant still sells plus-size lingerie, but it sells a specific range, just like every specialty retailer in the world sells a range of clothing. As do we. We market to who we sell to, and we don’t market to the whole world.  We attempted to do a television special for plus-sizes [in 2000]. No one had any interest in it, still don’t. Our show is the only branded special in the world, seen in 190 countries, by 1 billion 6 million people; 45 percent more people saw it last year than the year before......."

Of course he later apologized to trans-gendered women, but not so much to plus size women.
"My remark regarding the inclusion of trans-gender models in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show came across as insensitive.  I apologize.  To be clear, we absolutely would cast a transgender model for the show.  We've had transgender models come to castings... And like many others, they didn't make it... But it was never about gender.  I admire and respect their journey to embrace who they really are."
~Ed Razek, Chief Marketing Officer, L Brands
Clearly, plus size women and trans-gender women from all over the world still remember the biting words of Mr. Ed Razek, and have decided to spend their dollars elsewhere.
Dear Mr. Razek,
Women come in all shapes, sizes, and hues.  The demographic that you and Victoria's Secret pander to is not a true representation of what's really out in this world.  The world is not made up of white, bone and model thin teenage women.  You have completely ignored and insulted two large communities of women, who have the money to spend on lingerie, and these women have decided to spend their money elsewhere, and now you have to close 53 stores, and probably more closures will be soon coming.
