Students decided to throw up the nazi salute during the junior prom photo shoot. Check out all the details below:
One student (Jordan Barber) stood out among the rest by refusing to participate in the racist act:
Jordan Barber also did a mini interview with a news station. See, the mini news clip below:
Some other individuals have sense come out with stories of the racism and bigotry that they've had to deal with while attending Baraboo High School. I've listed a few stories below:

Hello, I like the others would like to remain anonymous if possible. I was a student who attended prom last spring, and I observed as this picture was taken. I was standing next to the photographer (who is known for being rather outspoken and a bit confusing). He gathered the boys for a photo, then yelled, “Alright everyone, high sign! High sign!” Everyone, including parents, looked around, very confused. One boy threw up his arm in the way that you see in the photo as a joke, but seemed surprised as everyone followed his lead. From what I observed as someone who was there for the entire event, nobody really knew what was being asked of them by the photographer and they rolled with the first idea that was suggested, even though it was presented as a joke. I would just like to point out that although this photo is disgusting as well as everything it stands for, it was not completely unprovoked and following it I heard multiple boys say things like “that was horrible, why did we just do that, what just happened” etc etc. While I cannot speak for all of their intents, I know a lot of what is seen in the photo came from confusion. I’m not trying to give them an excuse or an out, because they definitely should have known better, but there’s some information for additional perspective.
ReplyDeleteWe have gone so far back in time it's astonishing. I'm hurt, I'm shocked, that as a country, as a society and as women KNOW BETTER and we have to DO BETTER if we are set examples for our children.
ReplyDeleteMississippi Sen. Hyde-Smith Caught On Video Joking About 'Public Hanging' | Craig Melvin | MSNBC
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sIOJ7r3cTQ
Hyde-Smith should know FAR better than to refer in a joking manner to public hangings in a state that, according to the NAACP, conducted the most lynchings (561) from 1882 to 1968. (Many people have suggested that the comment was made even worse by the fact that Hyde-Smith's main opponent in her re-election race is black. I think the comment is about as tone deaf and bad as it can possibly get no matter who Hyde-Smith is running against.)
